I don't know about changing the sci fi universe but what about when the kids gives the reece's pieces to ET?
Terminator when adult John Connors gives Reece (no relation) the picture of Sarah Connor

I kind of hate myself for suggesting this one, but what about in Avatar when the chick saves that dude from the lion things when he gets lost at night.

Well my boss insists we keep the sound of thunder entry, which means I can no longer restrict my list to small acts of kindness.
So, I guess everything's in! Lister, Red Pill, everything, keep them coming please. Although no matter what the readers are going to scream vehemently that I missed something: I can think of like five minor things that severely affected the plot of E.T., alone.

Monkey using bone as tool. 2001: A Space Odyssey
Satellite crashing to earth in Andromeda Strain.
Common bacteria killing martians in War of the Worlds.
Mosquito caught in sap which becomes amber leads to rebirth of dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
Is this the right track?

These aren't so much acts (things people did) as they are events (things that happened)
But they are good and on the right track.

Fringe, the observer just wants to say hi to Walter Bishop causes hes a fan but distracts Walter from discovering the cure to his son's illness and that sets into motion the events of the whole series.

That's a really good one Farrell. If I had more time I'd limit it to simple acts that started entire series/films

I'm really wracking my brain. I feel like there has to be some instance of someone being nice to the villian of a story and it changing the villians heart or something. Sorta like the little girl who gives frankenstien a flower or something.

"How about the tragic day when Sci-fi Channel became Syfy...forever confusing viewers and further alienating normal people from the kingdom of nerds."
