God, this movie made me want to punch something in the face. It was everything I hoped it wouldn't be. Diarrhea.

Sure, costume and set design were nice, as well as the story had an interesting message, but I thought it was like putting lipstick on a pig. Made me yak. Its at Red Box.

I see what you mean now. It starts out sorta promising, and then takes a dive at minute 42. Some of the conflicts are a little contrived, and while the whole surrogate thing was kinda funny because it's basically the reverse of his job, the fact that his job's whole premise is absurd, and that the creators of the technology didn't release some kind of fleshlight or other tactile drivers just makes it weak. And the last 20 minutes are just silly.
In other words,

Dude, that was a great music video.Turns out, "Her" won a bunch of awards for best original screen play. I can understand this. It's has a lot of intelligent writing. I didn't even pick up the irony of the sex surrogate part. I'm sure some liberal studies major can go on and on about that and tie it into an overarching societal message about people's disconnection from "reality" or something. I've been on enough movie sets to realize there are tremendously talented people in Hollywood. While this movie just does so many little things right, and there was a sense of genuinity about the acting, when the main character said with a straight face, "I'm dating my OS, I wanted to break stuff.

I thought there was a lot to like about it. I loved the cinematography & the acting was good. The story was fine if a touch un-ambitious considering the subject matter. My main beef was that the "AI" never made me believe it was a computer. Sort of a reverse turing test, i would have liked it if every once in a while it said/did something odd that made me go "ohhh yeah" instead i felt like he was in a long distance relationship with scarlett johanson
