Tentatively, he opened the file. "Surely," he thought, "Amer couldn't have sent me every single possible combination of words in the universe." That was the last Evan was ever heard from, again. Ha. I thought about it. Ten thousand monkeys...

Is it possible that anyone else remembers a kids' game where everyone spun around in a corner, and the last one to fall down wins? YES, I used to play that as a kid with my older friends, before they all suddenly moved away. Huh, cuz that's what I thought, but I was just talking to my mom about it and she said, "you mean that game where you'd go into that empty attic and just spin around by yourself for hours?"

A specific dread came over the motley group of people as they assembled by the entrance. It was a combination of fear, anxiety, amusement and frustration. "Midlville" read the sign.

I could hear the tell-tale swishing of the aliens down the dimly lit corridors behind me as I ran into the small safe room and slammed the heavy, steel door shut. After sliding the large, rusting bolt into place, I held my breath for several heartbeats, exposing a slight swishing behind me that revealed I was not alone. I turned towards the dark figure skulking in the corner of the room and... let out a sigh of relief, as I realized it was just Tulley.

I received many quality entries. Good job everyone who entered, you all qualify for a clue which I'll be giving out tomorrow. Honorable mentions go to: Mike The obvious course of action would have been for him to have resisted her advances. She was madly in love with him and showed him every way she could think of. The tragedy lies in the fact interspecies marriage is forbidden. Paula It had been a year since the accident; a year since she heard she would never walk again. No longer just her therapist, he approached her and offered his hand. They danced. Annie She was a happy child but a miserable woman. Then a thought hit her like a wonderful, joyous bolt of lightening. And from that moment on, she ended each day surrounded by paper dolls. I really like these. A mention goes to Kyle: Kyle I raced around the corner, expectations growing with each step. This was a rare time indeed—a moment to be savored. Then the crotchbadger saw me. to which I told him he had to draw a picture of a crotchbadger to receive a clue, so he drew this fine example of stick figure furry pornography: Attachments:

I'll announce four runners up before announcing the winner of immunity:
Fifth place:
Amer I could hear the tell-tale swishing of the aliens down the dimly lit corridors behind me as I ran into the small safe room and slammed the heavy, steel door shut. After sliding the large, rusting bolt into place, I held my breath for several heartbeats, exposing a slight swishing behind me that revealed I was not alone. I turned towards the dark figure skulking in the corner of the room and... let out a sigh of relief, as I realized it was just Tulley.
Fourth Sarah
Sarah haiku Just a three hour tour With Mildville's celebrities And a murderer
It's just one sentence, folks.
Third:
Third Farrell She sank into the bath after a long day, but the papers were now signed and she was free of him. The warm water and fragrant bubble mix, that she had purchased on a whim from the supermarket, calmed her as she thought, "now I am free." She didn't notice her ex-husband enter the bathroom until he pushed her head under those same waters that now ushered her into a final peace.
2nd(tie) When she reached her stateroom, she noticed that the door was ajar and, although, she knew she should call for an attendant, the ship’s emergency phone was at the far end of the empty, darkened hallway and she was very tired. She shrugged and stepped across the threshold. No one was there to hear her tiny scream.
The glint from the moon made the scalpel unmistakable. Where is Captain Evan going with that knife, I wondered? I stepped into the shadows to observe, but couldn’t silence the screams coming from my throat as I stumbled over the body.
Wow, I wish I wrote as well as my mom.

And the winner of immunity is...
;D SON ;D
With this entry:
As they danced an explosion ripped through the therapist's office. As smoke and debris filled the hallway she looked at her legs, shattered and ruined again; her therapist dead beside her. Anguish gave way to a building wall of anger; the aliens would pay, in blood.
Just the first sentence is evocative: Why are they dancing in a therapist's office ? Who is trying to kill her? Then the use of "again" in "she looked at her legs, shattered and ruined again" was shocking. Then an alien twist at the end, which was cool.
Don't vote for Son on Wednesday. Check your messages for a clue by tomorrow at 4 pm pst, probably earlier (I'll try to get them out before work)
Thanks again for entering. I had fun, I hope you did, too

Not that shocking that her legs were "shattered and ruined again" because they had been ruined the first time in MY story!!!!! Congrats to Son....looking forward to getting some clues!

Yeah I felt weird about that, because last week your list was 28 and the winning one was 29. You and Son write well together.

She should get partial immunity, like minus one vote or something for being the inspiration for the winning story.

C'mon. The whole "Injured girl, falls for therapsit, fights aliens" theme is pretty darn universal. I'm surprised there weren't 4-5 entries along the same thing. This is just like the whole Avatar/Dance With Wolves debate that i wrote about here media.gunaxin.com/avatar-is-not-dancing-with-wolves/43300

I thought Avatar was a rip-off of Ferngully The Last Rainforest which was a rip-off of Dances with wolves but for kids.
