Just want to bookmark a thread to keep discussion for the most absurd spending spree in sports history altoghether.
Free agency is expected to start Saturday, and for the first time, teams are required to spend like 90% of their budget. So all these mid-market teams have tens of millions they have to dole out.
How long do they have to spend this?

Who is Tampa going to spend all their money on? They're something like $55mill under the salary floor for next season. I assume a contract extension for Freeman will be part of it, but they're gonna have to bring in someone expensive like Asomugha.

It's actually 99% for two years, then it drops to 89% (it used to be 87.6%). Most of that money will probably go to the 10 extra players on each team, and don't forget the increase in minimum salaries.

These football collective bargaining agreements are the most bizarre things. I can't imagine any other business being run like this.

I see, so it's not the raise in minimum spending that's causing the craziness as much as the extremely short time span for free agenct and rookie signings.

In the first offense move that doesn't involve a poor, overpayed player... Matt Hasselbeck is going to Tennessee.
Fantasy wise, this is great for CJ and also puts Britt back on the 4th/5th WR radar.
Edit: McNabb to the Vikings. CJ and AP just became viable #1 picks.
re-Edit: Sidney Rice joins Tavaris Jackson on the Seahawks. Kevin Kobb to the cardinals.
