That requirement didn't appear until, presumably, the August 29th edit. I did not know that edit had happened, and I wasn't in a position to check on Sunday. Further, since I couldn't access OED search before and after a certain point, I could only use the word lists I had acquired online, and the words I tried that were not accepted. Because I was not told that hieing was not in the OED, and I was told that others were not, I assumed it was acceptable, and assumed that a union of the OED and the Scrabble dictionary made sense as a rubric. Plus, not every word has its own entry, and if it shows up in quotations as not a proper noun, it's still used as a word in the OED.
In both challenges, the restrictions were in some way ineffable.

I don't know if it was an edit, before or after August 29th, but I remembered it mentioning www.oed.com from the beginning when I saw it. You are not the only one who had problems accessing to OED search, but returning to it later grants you access to the search for certain period of searches/time. It is up to the Captain's decision. If he considers it valid, then it's valid. If not, then he can change the winning submission.

I'm going to consult a physical copy of oed tomorrow morning to make a ruling.

I remember reading the rules friday night ad it inckuded the oed. Seems pretty cut and dry, if its not part of the dictionary it should be disqualified. Everyone was operating under the same restrictions of access so its even,

Had hieing been clearly unacceptable, nonetheless, I would've replaced it with hinge, bringing my score to 61

If Hieing was acceptable, we all could had a score or 63. But we don't.

dm;hs Finally managed to pull up a browser that could access it, and follow up on the appearances that cid so conveniently omitted.

Weird, I'm seeing it. Try typing in Hie and looking at the conjugations? I have, and I've seen it used as part of a sentence in www.oed.com. But since I remember ... I never hid the part of it being in oed. I've stated that I've seen it used in a sentence like the one you posted. However, since it was not an entry in the dictionary, I thought it might be considered invalid. I've told the Captain that I saw it used in a sentence, so that he could make a quick judgement of it being valid or invalid. I only had a screenshot of searching for hieing at the time, not hie, since it was for me to keep track of words that I've searched. Since oed was so "accessibility", I took screenshots of words that I've checked. The reason why I did not show you a picture of sentence using hieing in oed is because I could not find it, and the limited search entries. In the picture below, you can see me checking the word hieing and on the bottom left, and seeing no results.

Yeah that's the noun form. Hieing is the present gerund of the verb hie, derived from the interjection.

Yeah it's there. This challenge sucked because I had to spend a lot of time verifying obscure words. Jack Tappers jails: cid landlubber The Dread Pirate Roberts (no goblet) thebay swabbie
