Well, in advance of this game, Evan and I watched The Great Gatsby (the good one with Robert Redford).

I watched Triangle on youtube for free. A cool horror/suspense movie with a twist, you need to give it like 30 minutes for it to get interesting.

I second both Attack on Titan and Iron Sky (House of Cards needs no seconding)
I also came across Knights of Sidonia, which is another action anime with several parallels to Attack on Titan, and is also super fly.
Finally started Orange is the New Black. My recommendation is to watch the first episode until you get bored, read a summary of what happens or skip to the last 10 minutes or so, and then move on to the second episode. Getting bored with the pilot kept me from continuing for a long time, but I assure you once the series gets rolling it is well worth it.
Oh yeah, and Don Jon is pretty damn funny

I'm a wee bit behind the times....finally watching "Breaking Bad" and almost done with the second season. I'm glad I wasn't aware of the humor in it......it was a silly surprise!

Most people probably won't like it, but Evan would probably appreciate Doctor Who. I've gotten into it recently, and it has some pretty wild things going on. It's a bit juvenile and cheesy, but the directions they're able to go with storylines is great. They're practically unlimited. I love it. I think you'll be able to tell if you'd like it by watching just two episodes: The Impossible Astronaut, and Day of the Moon. It's actually a two-part episode; the beginning of season 6. You're kind of jumping into the middle of things without introductions, but you should be able to understand what's going on. I was rewatching it and I thought, "Evan would really like this". It has time-travel complications, alien schemes, and a great, big mystery.

Get yourself into a few regular episodes and see if you're a sucker for that sort of thing, like we are. What are you thinking Mr. Amer, running him into a pivotal area like that? You can get away with skipping the first season, and frankly nobody would blame you. Get right to David Tennant and ride it out, trob the exposition you need, and watch as the seas land may take you.

He can jump to The Impossible Astronaut without any problems. Those two episodes don't actually give away anything. It's a great episode pair that really hits on several themes that Evan likes. If he's into it, he can go back and start season 1. Personally, I think he'll love that episode. On the other hand, starting him straight on season 1 might turn him off before he gets to the good stuff. And, seriously, insisting that someone must watch a show about a time traveler in chronological order is just wrong.

Dark secrets. An unsolved mysteries parody without the humor of a usual parody. If you like unsolved mysteries or Welcome to nightvale, watch this. The acting is uncannily good and the devotion to detail of the original unsolved mysteries is amazing. Plus theres some meta plot that I don't understand yet.
It's different from any tv program I've ever seen.

Yea, that's great and all, but we're going to need to know what you plan to do about Doctor Who.

I'd say start on season 2. Rose and the Bad Wolf stuff is kind of annoying

Doctor who has never appealed to me. My likes are very specific: reality-based sitcoms, Drama with a supernatural twist, psychological horror, and Big Brother.
I dkn't like shows with a lot of aliens, or space travel, or androids.
I'll give doctor who a try, but I dont think its my thing. The closest i have come is being mildly entertained by Red Dwarf, which is a show annie loves.
Name a doctor who episode and season and i will try it

It has some time-travel bits that remind me loosely of Primer, and some alien bits that remind me of Mildville.

The new Doctor Who is amazing and I would recommend starting with episode 1 season 1 if you are even thinking of watching more than a few episodes. The first season is probably the weakest but it sets up the rest of the show. Alternatively, you could start with Season 5 episode 1 "The Eleventh Hour" as it somewhat starts over with a new doctor and new showrunner so while it is the same show, you don't need as much backstory.
If you want good standalone episodes, Season 2, "The Girl in the Fireplace" - fun time travel episode with clockwork robots Season 3, "Blink" (Doctor light but one of the best episodes ever) Season 3, "Shakespeare Code" - fun episode with shakespeare Season 4, "Silence in the Library, and Forest of the Dead" - self contained two parter Season 4, "Midnight" ultimate bottle episode / horror story Season 6 "The Doctor's Wife" - Neil Gaiman written episode Season 7 "Hide" - haunted house story with a twist
I could go on, most episodes are great with a couple stinkers here and there.

Wow. Just going to pretend Doctor 9 doesn't exist, huh?
Season 1, "The Empty Child" & "The Doctor Dances" — two-part horror

He is my least favorite of the new doctors and I don't like Christopher Eccelson decision regarding the 50th anniversary. I did recommend starting from the beginning and if i had to choose something from season 1 it would be those two episodes, basically anything written by moffet with 9 & 10 doctors is a winner. Eccelson wouldn't be my choice to introduce someone skeptical about the series as he is an unconventional doctor.

Yea. I didn't like Eccleston either. He was ungenuinely goofy. I powered through the first season because I knew that there would be better things coming. Nonetheless, The Empty Child was the first episode that wowed me. I thought it would be a cheesy, time-traveling, sci-fi show, but then they drop some horror on you, and it was surprisingly good. I felt a little shiver when The Doctor said, "the tape ran out 30 seconds ago". That kid was fuckin' creepy. By the way, if you're curious about how good a show is, there's a website that graphs their imdb episode ratings: graphtv.kevinformatics.com/tt0436992

They do have a great call back to that episode in the Poison Sky.
Thats a neat graph. It is funny how the agreed upon best episode, Blink, doesn't have alot of the doctor in it. It is interesting that the last two seasons trendlines are going down, the series' as a whole has been going up.
